I was pleased to learn yesterday that the Toronto Preservation Board accepted the motion made by Sterling Lofts tenants to designate their building under the Ontario Heritage Act. The campaign isn’t over, and the recommendation still needs to pass at City Council, but this is still a crucial step towards protecting the homes of these tenants, and to preserving space for creative workers and artists here in Davenport. Congratulations to the tenants and to all the neighbours who supported their efforts.

This week, I wrote to the Toronto Preservation Board in support of preserving the live-work spaces at 221 Sterling Road. This was in addition to a local letter writing initiative that was put together by Sterling Lofts Residents and South Junction GROWS. I believe that these lofts, beyond just providing housing and working spaces, have cultural significance and should be protected. You can read my full letter here.
